Call To Worship
“Daniel answered and said: Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, to whom belong wisdom and might.” -Daniel 2:20 If one knows me well, they know I am a HUGE Buffalo Bills (football) fan! In addition to my fandom of the team, I am very fond of the Bills’ starting quarterback, Josh Allen. Throughout a typical game, I am often cheering the name of Josh Allen: You go get them, Josh! Josh, this is why you are an MVP candidate! Yes, I am ‘All in on Allen!’ But as I was reminded this past Tuesday (after a humiliating loss to the Tennessee Titans), my “praise” of Allen was only temporary. My high speak of my favorite quarterback’s name eventually ceased. “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever…” Unlike Josh Allen, the name of the Lord deserves to be praised and blessed forever. Let us keep this in mind as we contemplate the song, Lift High The Name! As believers, we can rejoice that we even have the opportunity to praise and bless the name of the Lord. Because of our sinful nature - our wretched actions on a daily basis - we deserve to be separated from God “forever and ever.” But because of the saving power through accepting the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we now have the opportunity to bless the name of the Lord forever! As we worship this Sunday, Let us not approach our worship of our Savior and Lord in the same way we may celebrate or even worship a sports team. Our worship should not terminate once the service ends. Instead, let us be in a continual posture of worship leading up to this week’s service and thereafter.
